If you’ve left your house at all in 2017, you’ve likely seen a fidget spinner. Fidget spinners are all the rage along both children and adults. The term fidget spinner is a generic term that refers to the hand-held toys that usually have a wheel, 3 loops, and spin around a central point. The toy is meant to be balanced in between fingers. Although several companies make fidget spinner, you can buy a Steren Trifecta LED Flashing Spinner at Western Auto & Marine, Inc..
Although wildly popular, there’s been speculation and controversy surrounding these toys. Many companies have suggested that fidget spinners can be useful to children and adults with autism, anxiety, stress, ADD and ADHD; however, at this time, there is no concrete evidence of the benefits. Although according to LiveScience.com, “a 1955 study in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry found that boys with ADHD who can squirm and fidget instead of sitting still show greater attention to a task; however, the same benefit was not shown for children who did not have ADHD.”
Some schools have gone as far as banning fidget spinners from classrooms, but others have tried to capitalize on the popularity of fidget spinners and integrate them into the learning process and school activities. Take for example Joe Weaver, who posted this Tweet of his students using fidget spinners during interval warmups.
No matter which side of the fidget spinning fence you’re on, there’s no doubt these toys will continue to trend in 2017.
